Temperature of Train Cars
We’ve received many comments about the temperature of the train cars. We understand that some of the cars are warm. This is because: 1) each train car opens its doors at all 13 stations, letting in the hot summer air frequently, and 2) some of the train cars are more crowded than normal due to the 60-day outage of the Track Rehab Project. Many of our riders have reported the car number of “hot cars,” which we appreciate and find useful, and our Equipment Department has checked each of those reported cars. In addition, our Equipment Department has taken the following steps to make the cars as cool as possible:
- Replaced all of the thermostats in each train car so the cars’ air-conditioning units will begin cooling sooner than before
- Increased air filter change-outs to keep air flow at highest level
- Reduced the amount of outdoor air directly introduced into the HVAC system, thereby recycling the cool air present in the car (similar to the air recycling function in your car.)
- Continue to perform preventive maintenance/inspections every night, including checking Freon levels and cleaning return air grills
At this point, we are doing everything possible to decrease the temperature in our train cars. We apologize that some riders are experiencing discomfort due to the heat, but our train cars now are as cool as possible given the conditions. We will continue to monitor the temperature of the cars throughout the summer. And, again, we appreciate our riders who report the car number of warm cars so that our Equipment personnel can check the car’s performance as soon as possible. Thank you for helping PATCO keep the cars as cool as possible for everyone.
