Specially Wrapped Train Honors the Nation's Semiquincentennial and the Communities Connected by PATCO
The Port Authority Transit Corporation (PATCO) today unveiled a special America 250 commemorative train wrap celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States and the rich history shared by Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Debuting just weeks before Independence Day and the nation's 250th celebrations, the two-car train features custom artwork highlighting iconic people, places, symbols, and moments from both states. The wrap transforms the train into a moving tribute to America's founding and the communities PATCO connects across the Delaware River every day.
One railcar showcases Pennsylvania-inspired imagery, including Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin, the Pennsylvania seal, the "We the People" Constitution scroll, the Ben Franklin Bridge, and other patriotic elements associated with Philadelphia's central role in America's founding.
The second railcar highlights New Jersey's contributions to the nation's history and culture, featuring Washington Crossing the Delaware, the Battleship New Jersey, Camden City Hall, a historic PATCO railcar, shore imagery, and a map of the Delaware River connecting Philadelphia and New Jersey communities.
Flowing red, white, and blue ribbons unite the two railcars, symbolizing the enduring connection between Pennsylvania and New Jersey and the shared history that continues to shape the region.
"For nearly 60 years, PATCO has connected people, communities, and opportunities on both sides of the Delaware River," said PATCO General Manager John Rink. "As our nation celebrates its 250th anniversary, this commemorative train honors the pivotal role Pennsylvania and New Jersey played in America's founding while recognizing the connections that continue to bring our region together today."
The commemorative train will operate throughout the PATCO system during the America 250 celebration period, allowing riders and visitors to experience a rolling tribute to the nation's history.
The train also highlights the unique connection between Philadelphia and South Jersey. Since 1969, PATCO has linked the communities on both sides of the Delaware River, connecting riders to work, school, events, and the places that matter most. The commemorative train celebrates the shared history that continues to bring the region together every day.
Throughout the America 250 celebration period, the commemorative train will travel daily between Philadelphia and South Jersey, crossing the Ben Franklin Bridge and carrying a visual tribute to America's founding and the enduring connection between the communities on both sides of the Delaware River.
