Winter Weather Impact on PATCO Service
PATCO apologizes for any inconvenience experienced due to recently reduced service. This winter’s record snowfall has challenged us to do far more than plow our lots to clear space for thousands of cars. Just as piles of snow linger in outer parking lots, the extreme weather has had on-going effects on transit car availability.
PATCO trains operated throughout the snowstorms to keep the line open, and the combination of deep and light snow damaged car motors and other components.
Although we do not normally experience much snow in South Jersey, we had taken steps to minimize inconvenience by
(1) Maintaining an ample supply of replacement traction motors and
(2) Testing two approaches to prevent damage to the motors by specific types of snow.
We appreciate our customers’ patience as we work to install the motors and return cars to service. We expect to have a full complement of trains within a week to ten days.
We will continue to seek ways to improve our service. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for riding PATCO.
