On Thursday, July 21, from 6am to 9am at PATCO’s 12/13th and Locust Station and then again from 3pm to 6pm at PATCO’s 8th and Market Station, eight members of the DRPA Police Department’s Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response team (VIPR) will be conducting a practice operation using canines and other law enforcement tactics. PATCO riders will be informed of the drill in advance.
DRPA CEO and PATCO President, John J. Matheussen, says “these specialized law enforcement officers in the VIPR Unit continuously train to hone their skills to deter and disrupt any kind of threat to the system for the protection of our customers.”
DRPA Police Chief, David McClintock, adds “this operation is designed to provide high visibility to assure PATCO riders their safety is the Authority’s top concern.”
Also involved in the exercise will be Federal Air Marshalls and TSA screeners.
The Delaware River Port Authority is a regional transportation agency. DRPA owns and operates the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross Bridges, and PATCO. The DRPA also owns the RiverLink Ferry.
