The next time you drive across the Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry or Betsy Ross Bridge, don’t be surprised to see a toll collector wearing either red or a Phillies Jersey instead of the normal uniform. It’s all part of an Authority wide effort to root the Phillies home to another World Series Championship. PATCO employees as well as those at One Port Center in Camden will also be sporting Phillies Red on the days the Phillies play at Citizens Bank Park. Toll Collectors and PATCO train operators also have the option of wearing Phillies Caps. The special Phillies attire will also be worn on Friday, September 30, the day before the National League Division Series begins against St. Louis at Citizens Bank Park.
DRPA CEO and PATCO President, John J. Matheussen says “We are proud of the team’s accomplishments this year and we hope the Phillies can return a World Series Championship to Philadelphia.”
The Authority has also placed a banner on the east face of the New Jersey tower of the Ben Franklin Bridge urging the Phillies on to victory. Another banner can be seen overhead just west of the Walt Whitman Bridge toll booths.
Also, the Ben Franklin Bridge will have red and white lighting on most home playoff dates while the PATCO concourses at Camden City Hall, 8th and Market, and the three on Locust Street will also have red and white lighting.
The Delaware River Port Authority is a regional transportation agency. DRPA owns and operates the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross Bridges, and PATCO. The DRPA also owns the RiverLink Ferry.
GO PHILLIES !!!
