PATCO is staging an emergency drill on Sunday, November 6, 2011, at the Ashland Station in Voorhees, New Jersey. The drill will simulate an emergency onboard a PATCO train located at the Ashland Station Platform.
The drill will require the closing of the Ashland Station between 6 a.m. and 12 noon. All other PATCO stations between Lindenwold, New Jersey and Philadelphia will be open. PATCO passengers riding past the Ashland Station should be aware while they may notice police activity on the platform, it is part of a drill and they should not be concerned.
Over 100 people will be involved with the drill. Drill participants will include PATCO personnel as well as DRPA Public Safety, Voorhees Fire, EMS, other local police departments and the Camden County Office of Emergency Management.
PATCO President John J. Matheussen says, “The drill is conducted to comply with FTA requirements, but, more importantly, it helps local responders prepare for emergencies.”
PATCO Assistant General Manager Cheryl Spicer says, “This drill will allow our personnel to remain current on techniques and procedures that would be utilized in an emergency situation.”
The drill is being coordinated by PATCO Safety Specialists David Rosser and Mike Finegan. Rosser says, “The lessons we learn from conducting these drills continue to make emergency response safer and more successful for local responders.”
