First-time Ads to Generate $5,000 per Month for High-Speed Line
The School of Business at Rutgers University-Camden will be the inaugural advertiser on Port Authority Transit Corporation (PATCO) passenger tickets starting July 2.
Rutgers purchased the space on 200,000 paper tickets, the amount PATCO passengers typically consume during one month. The advertisements will produce $5,000 to offset the high-speed line’s operating expenses.
“We’re looking at ways to increase revenue and keep fares stable,” said PATCO General Manager John Rink. “The tickets were an unused advertising medium, and we decided to put them to work.”
Rink said PATCO plans to sell as many ticket-months as possible to willing advertisers.
"We’ll also be looking at other opportunities to sell or lease other unused advertising space,” Rink said. “We owe it to our customers to explore revenue alternatives to passenger fares and bridge tolls.”
In April, the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) announced preliminary plans to sell naming rights to PATCO stations.
