CAMDEN, N.J. - The Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) is looking for members. CAC is seeking residents of Southeastern Pennsylvania to fill currently vacant seats. Although additional South Jersey members are not needed at this time, interested citizens can submit their applications in case a seat becomes available.
"CAC members have an important voice in the conduct of public business," said DRPA CEO John T. Hanson. "Their input is vital to making sure the DRPA is aware of the concerns of our stakeholders."
The ideal applicant is a civic-minded person who routinely uses PATCO commuter rail line, any DRPA bridge (Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross), or both.
The CAC functions as an independent advisory body representing DRPA toll-payers and PATCO passengers on DRPA matters, including operations, budgets, policy, and issues of general concern. CAC members counsel DRPA senior management and the Board of Commissioners but do not vote on board resolutions.
The 24 members of the CAC - 12 each from Pennsylvania and New Jersey - each serve a three-year, unpaid term. Participation requires attendance at monthly meetings (usually the second Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m.) held at One Port Center in Camden. These meetings are open to the public.
Interested members of the community must complete an application which can be downloaded here. Forms are also available in the lobby of our headquarters at One Port Center, 2 Riverside Drive in Camden, the administration buildings of all four bridges, as well as at PATCO stations. Completed applications should be mailed to the DRPA (One Port Center, P.O. Box 1949, Camden, NJ 08101-1949). Applicants with questions may call DRPA Customer Service at 1-877-567-3772 (press option 5).
Eligible applicants may not be related to DRPA commissioners, officers or employees. Vendors and employees of companies that conduct business with the DRPA or PATCO are also ineligible.
The applications of eligible applicants who are not selected to fill open CAC seats will be retained for future consideration when committee vacancies occur. Because vacancies occur periodically, the DRPA accepts applications year-round from people interested in serving on the CAC.
