New policy includes safety concerns and rider requests for less horn sounds
LINDENWOLD - On Friday, April 28, PATCO implemented a new horn policy for trains that pass through stations and do not stop. Previously, it was standard operating procedure for a train operator to sound the train’s horn while approaching a station and continue sounding during the train’s passage through the station. The continuous sounding was to alert passengers on the platform of a rapidly passing train. Under the newly revised policy, train operators will sound the horn on the station’s approach, but will cease while passing through the platform area.
Operators will still sound their horns in stations as warnings if they see someone too close to the edge of the platform as the train approaches or in case of an emergency.
The revised policy assures safety while addressing recent customer feedback concerning the prolonged sound of horns in and around stations.
