On Wednesday morning, December 4, a train traveling eastbound displayed a warning indicator light that the train’s brakes were engaged as it pulled into the City Hall Station. The train operator attempted to troubleshoot the issue but eventually had to place the train out of service.
Shortly after, a westbound train holding at Ferry Avenue Station to single-track around the out of service train experienced a drop in air pressure in one its brake lines. This train was also placed out of service.
As a result, all trains had to single-track around the two disabled trains. Significant service delays occurred due to having two out-of-service trains on different tracks in close proximity to one another.
Normal service resumed shortly after 10 a.m.
The cause of the equipment issue on the first train was determined to be a faulty light sensor which created a false indication that the brakes were engaged. As the train pulled out of City Hall Station to return to the Lindenwold Maintenance Facility, the light turned off. The cause of the second train issue was determined to be a faulty air hose.
We are sorry for the inconvenience our riders experienced this morning. We always strive to provide our customers with our best service every day.
