Puppies Take Their 1st Train Ride On PATCO

PATCO will host a group of four-legged passengers this Saturday, March 29, when 12 seeing eye puppy trainees take their first ever train ride. The seeing-eye-puppies-in-training will ride PATCO from Cherry Hill to Philadelphia along with 25 trainers. The puppies will board the 9:33 a.m. train at Woodcrest Station in Cherry Hill and travel west to PATCO’s 8th and Market Streets Station. From there the puppies will be off to tour Center City via Ride the Ducks. They will end their day with a ride on the 1:54 p.m. train back to Woodcrest. Media are invited to follow along. Every aspect of the trip will help further the puppies’ education and socialization. The puppies will be exposed to travel situations and the sights and sounds of the city, such as heavy traffic and walking on pavement among pedestrians. When fully trained, the puppies will be able to help the blind lead more independent lives. The puppies taking part in the train ride represent the Caring Canines 4-H Clubs of Burlington, Gloucester and Salem counties, and are affiliated with the Seeing Eye, Inc., of Morristown, NJ. Members of Caring Canines are youth and their families who train seeing-eye puppies from 8 weeks until they leave at 14 months.
