PATCO Shatters One Day Ridership Record

Our World Champ Phillies’ Victory Parade on Friday, October 31, is responsible for setting a one day record for trips on PATCO. On Friday 97,607 trips were unofficially recorded on PATCO, breaking the previous record by 20,000. The previous one day record was also set because of a World Series Parade. On Wednesday, October 22, 1980, there were 77,557 trips on PATCO. The average daily ridership on a normal weekday is around 38,000 trips. The number does not include people who used New Jersey Transit Tickets to ride PATCO. PATCO accepted Jersey Transit Tickets for several hours Friday afternoon from New Jersey bound travelers as New Jersey Transit buses were unable to navigate the crowded streets of Philadelphia. PATCO President, John J. Matheussen, says “General Manager Bob Box and the entire PATCO organization did an outstanding job providing the best possible service under extraordinarily difficult conditions.” The Delaware River Port Authority is a regional transportation agency. DRPA owns and operates the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross Bridges, and PATCO, the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal and the RiverLink Ferry.
