DRPA Public Safety to Host NJ State Police T.H.R.E.A.T. Program At Lindenwold & Broadway Stations

If PATCO riders see increased Police Activity at the Lindenwold and Broadway Stations Wednesday Afternoon, December 3rd, they should be aware it’s all part of a drill designed to mitigate or prevent terrorist activity in New Jersey. The New Jersey State Police Target Hardening Response and Emergency Activation Team (T.H.R.E.A.T.), will be at the Lindenwold Station at 4:00pm and the Broadway Station at the Walter Rand Transportation Center in Camden at 5:30 p.m. to educate the public about the security program. PATCO riders will notice an increased police presence including K-9 units. T.H.R.E.A.T. is a public awareness program that encourages the public to work with law enforcement to maintain the highest possible level of safety. It advises the public to be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious activity through a toll free tip line at 1-866-4-SAFE-NJ. Wednesday’s exercise marks the program’s seventh visit to PATCO. PATCO President, John J. Matheussen, says “In today’s world security is a top priority for all. The formation of programs such as T.H.R.E.A.T. shows the effort public safety officials are making to ensure the safety and security of our assets and our communities.” The T.H.R.E.A.T. program is similar to PATCO’s Transit Watch program which encourages the active participation of transit passengers and employees working together to maintain a safe transit environment. In addition to PATCO, The Delaware River Port Authority is a regional transportation and development agency.
