Within minutes, the situation was assessed, the area secured, and contingency plans commenced for alternate service. Multiple people were dispatched to each station to assist and inform customers. Our personnel worked alongside and coordinated with PSE&G and emergency personnel at the scene to try to expedite repairs. At one point, we had 22 New Jersey Transit buses providing shuttle service between Ferry Avenue and Broadway. Many of ourpersonnel were coordinating the transfer of customers from the trains to buses at Broadway and Ferry Avenue. The event lasted from approximately noon through much of rush hour. During this time, information was provided to news media outlets and was posted on our website. E-Alerts were sent to customers who have subscribed through www.ridepatco.org. Although we took many steps to minimize the inconvenience to our customers, an After Action Review will be conducted to assess every aspect of the situation. This analysis is standard procedure as part of PATCO’s commitment to continually improving our service. We appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding.
