DRPA Announces Open Houses On Southern New Jersey To Philadelphia Mass Transit Expansion Study

The public is being given the opportunity to see transit proposals at four open houses throughout the region.  The proposed plan was endorsed last month by Governor Jon S. Corzine. 

The proposed plan includes light rail line running from Camden to Glassboro including stations in Gloucester City, Woodbury and Pitman, a Bus Rapid Transit system utilizing both Routes 42 and 55, and, improving connections with New Jersey Transit’s Atlantic City Rail Line.

DRPA CEO, John J. Matheussen, says “this is our latest effort to get input from the public on our plan to improve transit in South Jersey.  We need to hear what the public thinks before plans are finalized.”

DRPA Vice-Chair, Jeff Nash, says “there’s been talk for over a decade on ways to improve mass transit in South Jersey and now it’s finally happening.”

The open house format will allow those who are interested to view the plans in detail and speak directly with officials about the proposed projects.

All of the open houses will take place between 6:30 and 8:30 pm with the first on June 10th at Rutgers University, Main Lounge of the Campus Center, 326 Penn Street in Camden.  The second open house will be the following day, June 11th, at the Woodbury High School Cafeteria, 25 North Broad Street in Woodbury.   The third open house will be June 17th at Camden County College Civic Hall located in the Connector Building, 200 College Drive in Blackwood.  The fourth and final open house will be June 18th at Rowan University’s Chamberlain Student Center, 201 Mullica Hill Road, in Glassboro.

The Delaware River Port Authority is a regional transportation agency.  DRPA owns and operates the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross Bridges, PATCO and the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal.  The DRPA also owns the RiverLink Ferry.
