There is tremendous regional support for the implementation of a strong vision of transit investment for South Jersey. This vision includes a new light rail line from Camden to Glassboro along the existing Conrail Right of Way that will connect to Philadelphia and communities along the way that grew up along that rail route at a time when railroads formed the transportation backbone of our state. Along with expanded light rail, the plan also calls for bus rapid transit along Routes 42 and 55 and an improved rail connection to Atlantic City and its International Airport along the existing line that originates at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia.
This plan will conform to New Jersey’s Smart Growth goals, protect the environment, create thousands of jobs, reduce traffic congestion, revitalize our communities and provide much needed increased mass transit options in out area. We are grateful for the support of the municipalities, county governing bodies and regional organizations that have provided the attached resolutions and letters in favor of the light rail expansion into South Jersey. This three-pronged multimodal plan was developed after extensive public outreach, technical analysis and agency coordination and has the support and $500M in funding from the State of New Jersey. Its expeditious implementation will enable us to keep the region moving ahead to bring the residents of South Jersey the expanded transportation options they need and deserve.
