Riders Experiencing FREEDOM to Save this Fall

PATCO’s rider benefits program, FREEDOM to Save, embraces the new season by treating passengers exiting at the Woodcrest station to freebies and coupons from program partners.

FREEDOM to Save is a program in which retailers, restaurants, service providers and other companies reach PATCO riders and offer discounts or other perks to users of PATCO’s smart card fare collection system, the FREEDOM Card.  To notify customers of their involvement, participating businesses are displaying window decals and counter signs, and PATCO promotes the participating companies and their offers through a new page on its Web site – www.ridepatco.org/freedomtosave.   

It is a program in which both riders and participating businesses see value.  “Our partnership with this program is ideal for us.  It helps us target PATCO riders who are primarily business people who have a higher propensity to dry clean their work clothes,” said Micah Zwerling, CEO of $1.99 Any Garment Dry Cleaning, which is offering 10% off its services to FREEDOM Card holders.

“The program is a great way to promote our business at no real cost,” said Judy Weinstein of Jubili Beads & Yarns. “It has helped us get through the downturn in the economy by encouraging customers to visit and return.”

An estimated 150 businesses throughout South Jersey and downtown Philadelphia have signed on to the program to offer savings to PATCO riders.  A list of participating businesses is available on www.ridepatco.org. 

“The FREEDOM to Save program has been a success for us in connecting with our 36,000 daily riders in a more meaningful way and in supporting our regional business community,” said John J. Matheussen, President of PATCO.   “We anticipate the program growing and offering even more value for our riders.” 

“In our 40th year of service to the community, FREEDOM to Save has been the most recent example of how we are constantly looking for ways to provide a real benefit to our riders and the community,” said Jeff Nash, Delaware River Port Authority Vice Chairman.  

The FREEDOM card can be purchased at the automated machines located at each of the 13 PATCO stations along the 14.2 mile line through Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia.
